Sara Hussey, MBA, CAE – ACMS Executive Director
As wildfires continue to devastate Southern California, particularly in the Los Angeles area, our thoughts are with the affected communities and the brave individuals on the front lines. Members of the Allegheny County Medical Society (ACMS) have inquired about ways to provide meaningful support to their counterparts and first responders in these regions. Our colleagues from the LACMA (Los Angeles County Medical Association) have a great resource page to help identify areas of support for physicians. Below are several reputable organizations actively involved in relief efforts that would greatly benefit from your contributions.
1. PHC Disaster Relief Fund
Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund will be used to reestablish the delivery of medical care to areas of California affected by disasters by providing physicians who are victims of disasters with financial assistance to help restore their medical practices.

How You Can Help
1. Monetary Donations
Financial contributions are the most effective way to provide immediate assistance. They allow organizations to allocate resources where they are needed most.
2. In-Kind Donations
Some organizations may accept specific goods or supplies. It’s advisable to check their websites for current needs and guidelines. Once the situation in Southern California has stabilized, we will provide updated resources on in-kind donations to support the medical community.
3. Volunteer Support
While on-the-ground volunteer opportunities may be limited due to safety concerns, some organizations might offer remote or future volunteer options. As those opportunities become available, we will do our best to post any of that information on this blog post.
